As
we are sure you are aware , Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning the
Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) came into force
June 1st. 2007. The
REACH regulation covers chemical substances both manufactured in, and
imported into the EU above one tonne per year. The regulations provide a
transitional arrangement for substances already in the market (phased
–in substance). Castle Colours intends to pre-register all its phase in
substances that it imports from outside of the EU, whilst at the same time
seeking assurances from our EU suppliers that they will be pre-registering
the phased in substances that are supplied to ourselves.
This pre-registration will ensure uninterrupted business at least
until November 2010. Although
the regulation is now in force, many of the details required for
compliance will only become clear once the forthcoming technical guidance
documents (RIPs) have been published. REACH
is an integral part of our ongoing business activities- including
endeavouring to obtain Downstream User Information as required within
REACH. The details of requirements will be covered in RIP 3.5 to be
published later this year. Upon final publication, it is Castle Colours
intention to produce a questionnaire to obtain this information from
individual factories. This collection of data to be undertaken by our
Technical Sales Representatives during the course of their normal factory
visits. To
ensure that our manufacturing process and products are not affected, we
will work together with our suppliers to ensure the availability of our
key raw materials. Castle Colours will endeavour to implement the REACH
regulation efficiently. We will work closely with customers and suppliers
to secure the availability of financially sustainable products. We
