Manganese in Ceramics

The Product

Manganese has been an essential component in ceramic products from ancient times.  As a colourant in clay products and in a variety of atmospheric conditions it proves to be a versatile mineral.

The inclusion of Manganese in clay products not only affects a change in colour but:-

  • reduces the refractoriness of the clay
  • lowers porosity
  • improves mechanical strength

The black Pyrolusite mineral (MnO2 ) has been the traditional product used by the heavy clay industry for many years.

Dependant upon the amounts added, red clays can be changed from brown to black and from buff burning clays shades of grey can be produced.

The fineness of the manganese product can have a significant effect.

Castle Colours' Manganese is a superfine quality product with a consistently high Manganese content.  It is a technically advanced manufactured product.

Castle Colours are established suppliers of Manganese to the heavy clay industry.

The Service

Castle Colours will conduct a laboratory assessment of your raw materials to identify the correct addition rates for your production process.

This will be followed by on-site trials conducted by Castle Colours experienced personnel.

Our Manganese product is typically supplied in slop form.  Depending upon quantities delivery will be by bulk tanker or in 1000 litre containers.

Upon request Castle Colours will also supply the product in dry powder form.  The material is readily dispersible and easily suspended.

Dry Manganese is usually supplied in 1 tonne bags.
